Perhaps the spookiest tale to come out of Arizona transportation history, is that of U.S. Route 666, a north-south highway that originally ran from Douglas to Sanders in Arizona and traveled through New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Born of the federal numbering system in the early 20th century, the highway predictably became known as the Devil’s Highway, with tales of strange, supernatural occurrences on and around the highway. In 1992, Arizona petitioned to have the route renumbered to US 191, pa
