Spotted some birds making their migration north yesterday on radar around sunset. On certain days, the radar beam can bounce off of an inversion layer around sunrise and sunset (called ducting) and pick up on relatively low flying objects - like birds. The donut circles you see pop up are called "roost rings" on radar and show the birds leaving their roost at sunset to fly north. Migratory birds often travel at night to avoid birds of prey. | Riley Hale WRDW
