The Belfry of Bruges (Dutch: Belfort van Brugge) was originally a Medieval tower on Market Square (Markt) in Bruges, Belgium. The octagonal upper portion was added in the late 1400s and originally capped with a wooden spire. Struck by lightning in 1493, the resultant fire destroyed the spire and bells.
